Monday Mise en Place: Retro Bakery Gets Bold, Beautiful, Young and Restless

Congratulations to our favorite Cupcake Dealers (yes, when you make buttercream that good, you enter ‘dealer’ territory), Kari and Brian Haskell of Retro Bakery, for getting the nod to supply their product (and what a tasty product it is) to the CBS After-Party of the upcoming Daytime Emmy Awards on June 27.  The Queen of Buttercream broke the news of baking for the casts and crews of the Bold and the Beautiful and Young and the Restless on her own must-read blog where she said, “YES!! The show I have been watching for OVER 20 years has asked ME TO DO CUPCAKES FOR THEM!!!”

Here’s to hoping Kari doesn’t get kidnapped by her long lost identical twin and held captive in her twin’s lair on some undisclosed exotic island before Sunday.  Hey….it could happen!  Follow Kari and Retro Bakery news on Twitter at @RetroBakery.  By the way, we wrote a post about Retro Bakery back when Tasting Las Vegas was still a wee (-er) lad. In case you missed it, check out our post about Retro Bakery when they turned two years old.

The International Symbol of Culinary Hackdom

Last week was one hell of a week for Tasting Las Vegas.  In case you missed some of the action….

- The omnipresent Robin Leach gave us one hell of a shoutout in his Luxe Life blog for the post I wrote about the Rick Moonen / Jay Rayner online feud.  Thanks Robin!

- You may have noticed that Michael Manley’s posts have gone missing, and that’s because we split the blog and he is now doing his own thing at the Age of Manley.  You can read more about the decision to each do our own thing here.  We’ll certainly be doing guest blogging on each other’s sites, and will be back together once I get Tasting Las Vegas: The Podcast up and running.

- Friday was a big day as John Curtas and Max Jacobson had myself and Jillian Plaster of Frugal Foodie fame on KNPR’s State of Nevada to talk about food blogging.  I wrote about my unfounded paranoia and the audio from the broadcast in this here post.

- One last note, I’ve upgraded to WordPress 3.0, but I still have no fucking clue how to get Custom Post Types to appear on the main page.  Why anybody should care about this is because until I figure this shit out, the TLV Beer Club is lying dormant.  I registered a special Twitter account which I will be manning at @TLV_BeerClub, but until I can make the blog bend at my will, not much will be happening there.  Stay tuned for updates on the TLV Beer Club…and if you know anything about Custom Post Types in WordPress 3.0….HELP!!!!!

  • Hi Mike, I listened to the broadcast of SoN and you had nothing to worry about, you did great! Everyone at Three Square also enjoyed your Rick Moonen/Jay Rayner post. And finally, a huge shout out to Retro Bakery – Congratulations!

  • Thanks so much, Cheryl! I love the work you guys do! It was so great to be able to see a bit of the behind the scenes action back with the Uncork’d event. Looking forward to doing many more stories about Three Square in the future…anything I can do to help get the word out is my honor.
