Wolfgang Puck and Todd English Lead the Way for New Tastes at Crystals

By far, the main attraction at CityCenter (some would say only attraction) are the restaurants.  A stellar collection of places to eat, each of the individual buildings that comprise CityCenter has an eatery to go to that is worth dealing with the ongoing valet / parking situation there.  The Crystals mall has had a bunch of new additions that have recently opened or are about to open beyond their Opening Day (December 3, 2009) offering of Eva Longoria Parker and Chef Todd English’s hip Spanish steak emporium, Beso.  Here’s a quick snapshot at the new eats of Crystals.

Wolfgang Puck furthers his Las Vegas empire with two offerings; The Pods by Wolfgang Puck and Brasserie PUCK.  The Pods is a casual coffee shop café kind of joint where you can grab a quick cup of joe and a pastry to go, or you can sit down and “enjoy” the view of Crystals’ interior with breakfast and lunch items offered all day long. The Pods by Wolfgang Puck opened back on January 25th

The first French restaurant the Wolfman has created in 30 years, Brasserie PUCK will feature Wolfgang’s interpretations of French classics. Good news for locals, is that, according to Wolfgang Puck’s Facebook page, we get 25% off the entire check from now through April 30th!

In what may be the most unique dining setting in all of Las Vegas, Mastro’s Ocean Club opened their “treehouse” on February 4th. Preliminary first impressions perceive Mastro’s Ocean Club to be the Steakhouse of the Ocean. Mastro’s will surely be a mecca for the wheeling and dealing power lunch and sign-on-the-dotted-line business dinner.

Opening tomorrow (February 11) is Todd English P.U.B., which is Todd English’s second offering in Crystals alone and third Vegas-wide (the other is Olives at Bellagio).  Originally touted as a British Gastropub kind of deal a few months ago, an attempt to get current information has gone unrewarded, so we’ll have to see what the menu brings tomorrow.

I visited the Todd English pub on friday of the opening week. Reception and hosts were warm and inviting. We ordered ceasar salad, oysters, stone crab, sliders and the roast turkey platter. Shellfish were fresh but the TE signature cocktail sauce tasted like glorified ketchup. Ceasar salad was decent  although there was no anchovy detected in the dressing, the cheese was lacking sharpness and it strangely included tomatoes. The sliders were very tender and perfectly cooked and were accompanied with fries and fried pickle. The turkey platter was unacceptably dry… Bone dry! Extensive beer and wine menu kept us entertained.
We wanted to pay for our bill but it took 15 minutes of me waving and flailing my arms in the air before i gave up, got up, got the host to grab a waiter to send us our bill.(no joke!) The waitress that brought us our bill complained we should have flagged her down sooner even though she was not assigned to our section, all this while our original waiter was right behind us (hiding?)
I will never return or recommend this restaurant or anything with Todd English’s name on it due to this very disappointing Las Vegas experience.

  • I haven’t been yet, not really in that big of a rush either! LOL Did he really put a Beer Pong table in there? Ick.
