Monday Mise en Place: Caña and Hussong's Set to Open

Oh yes, yet another brand spanking new feature on Tasting Las Vegas has been born; the Monday Mise en Place!  Getting the news for the coming week together, prepared and neatly arranged, Monday Mise en Place is our weekly highlight of the Las Vegas culinary developments to come.

And now, news for the week starting on January 18, 2010

Featuring South American small plate dishes, Caña Latin Kitchen and Bar is scheduled to have their Grand Opening on January 19!  Staying true to its name, Caña will feature sugar cane based spirits. The cocktails are all made with fresh squeezed produce and hand crafted syrups.  Opening at 8pm on the 19th, Caña’s regular hours will be 5pm-2am everyday.  Caña Latin Kitchen and Bar is located next to the Blue Martini at Town Square.  Their website is and you can follow them on Twitter at @CanaLasVegas.

On January 22nd, legendary cantina and taqueria, Hussong’s, opens an outpost at Mandalay Place in the Mandalay Bay Resort!  Claiming to have invented the Margarita back in October of 1941, Hussong’s will bring its legendary tradition of tacos and good times that they have been cranking out since 1892. With no specific date set, Tasting Las Vegas has learned that The Black Pepper Grill will be opening a second location in the MonteLago Village of Lake Las Vegas.  Currently hiring its staff, the Black Pepper Grill is slated to have a soft opening sometime within the next two weeks, according to their representative.

I know this is outside the confines of the week ahead, but this is news too good to keep to ourselves! Chef Rick Moonen and RM Seafood has announced a February 2nd reopening the Upstairs Dining Room at their Mandalay Place location.  With tough economic times forcing one of Las Vegas’ true culinary treasures to take a hiatus, Chef Moonen is returning to fine dining mode with even the pots and pans being brand new!
