Monday Mise en Place: What Was Once 'Fleur de Lys' Will Now Be 'Fleur by Hubert Keller'

Behind These Walls A Restaurant Gets Reborn. Fleur by Hubert Keller is Coming

Behind These Walls A Restaurant Gets Reborn. Fleur by Hubert Keller is Coming

The renovations at the Fleur de Lys space at Mandalay Bay continue.  Construction is said to be “slow,” but I’m being told that the reborn restaurant is still slated to have a soft opening in mid-December with a blowout official grand opening after the New Year.  While the restaurant will be focusing on an international tapas concept, as reported here months ago, there will be some entree-sized portions as a hold over from the old restaurant.  The menu is still being finalized, but I’ll certainly give it a shoutout once I get my grubby paws on it.  Another big change will be the name of the space, as it is no longer Fleur de Lys, but will now forever be known as Fleur by Hubert Keller.  I can’t wait for this baby to open!

Rumors…and remember these are so far unconfirmed rumors…continue to boil over that Gordon Ramsay will be taking over the Bradley Ogden space at Caesars Palace.  My contacts inside Caesars have all said they hear that the deal is as good as done, although I have yet to hear back any official word from representatives of either Caesars or Chef Ramsay himself.  Remember that the former Chef de Cuisine of Bradley Ogden, Todd Williams, recently flew the coop to become Assistant Executive Chef of Caesars Palace. While there is no question that Bradley Ogden needs a reboot, it would be sad to see it close its doors as there has been a shitload of amazing talent to come through, and continue to be in, that kitchen.  I’ll keep you posted.

Once again Project Dinner Table has knocked it out of the park raising $3,000 for HELP of Southern Nevada.  I think this brings the total of money raised for Southern Nevada charities to $17,000! This past dinner was held at the Gilcrease Orchard and was served up by Chefs Rick Moonen and Adam Sobel.  The next and final Project Dinner Table event for this season will be on November 14th and will feature Chef de Cuisine of Sensi at the Bellagio, Roy Ellamar.  By the way, Chef Ellamar is my Chef Interview on this week’s Tasting Las Vegas: The Podcast, you’re not going to want to miss it.  To get more information about Project Dinner Table, check out http://ProjectDinnerTable.com.

Lotus of Siam Adding On In The Big Apple

Lotus of Siam Adding On In The Big Apple

Congratulations and best wishes to Chef Saipin Chutima and husband Bill as they open up an outpost of their Lotus of Siam in New York City.  The news first broke in this article in the New York Times.  It’s a rarity for us to be sending New York something, so it’s something for our often shunned city to take some pride in.  They will start with a much smaller menu in New York and gradually add some items.  Maybe something they should consider also doing in Vegas?  I’m not just sayin’, but I’m just sayin’.

And as we send New York one, they send us one right back.  It was announced that P.J. Clarke’s will be opening up at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace sometime in December.  P.J. Clarke’s seems to bill itself as an old school, no bullshit bar.  Obviously, it will be perfectly at home on the Las Vegas Strip.  Hopefully the staff working there will be dripping with slightly less testosterone than the press release was.  I’ll have to read this one on the podcast. Oy.

Tasting Las Vegas: The Tweetup at the Naked City Pizza Shop on Nov. 15! Come hang!

Tasting Las Vegas: The Tweetup at the Naked City Pizza Shop on Nov. 15! Come hang!

As it was announced on last week’s Tasting Las Vegas: The Podcast and then again today all over this very blog and on Twitter and Facebook, The First Official Tasting Las Vegas: The Tweetup is on and will be at the Naked City Pizza Shop inside MoonDoggie’s Bar at the corner of Desert Inn and Arville.  Good times are guaranteed as there will be food specials, beer specials and Tequila Ambhar will be on hand to lubricate the cause even further.  The festivities will be on Monday, November 15th starting at 6:00pm.  All are cordially invited and be sure to tell your friends!  The only thing I ask is that you please RSVP either on Facebook or on the Twtvite so we’re sure to have enough food and booze available for consumption.  Come hang!

Elect Harry Reid, because the alternative is fucking nuts!

Elect Harry Reid, because the alternative is fucking nuts!

I’ll do my best to keep politics off this blog, but tomorrow, November 2nd, is a very important election and a prime opportunity for Nevadans to look like total imbecile douchebags.  I think Bill Maher said it best when he said the following direct message to disillusioned progressives on his Real Time with Bill Maher show on HBO.  Bill said, “I hate my cellphone company, but I don’t replace it by rubbing dogshit on my teeth.”

We might not be happy with the way things have gone in Washington, but is the solution to the problem to put this fucking nut case Sharron Angle in there?  I don’t think so, and hopefully you don’t either.  Let’s get Harry Reid in there again, who by the way has done tremendous things for the State of Nevada.  You don’t put out a house fire by spilling nuclear waste on it…and by the way…the reason why Las Vegans don’t have nuclear waste in our backyard is because of Senator Harry Reid.  Get out and vote.  It’s important.
