Las Vegas Shines with James Beard Award Semifinalists

The James Beard Foundation has announced their 2010 Restaurant and Chef Award Semifinalists, and no surprise, Las Vegas has a strong representation!

The Outstanding Restaurateur gave a nod to Richard Melman of Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises (Eiffel Tower Restaurant, Maggiano’s Little Italy, Mon Ami Gabi & Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab).  Lettuce Entertain You also picked up a second nomination with Alpana Singh being recognized in the Outstanding Wine and Spirits Professional category.

Complimented with chefs with well-respected outposts in Las Vegas, The Outstanding Chef category had the likes of; Tom Colicchio (Craftsteak & ‘whichcraft), Jean Joho (Eiffel Tower Restaurant) and Michael Mina (Michael Mina, American Fish, Nobhill Tavern, Seablue and Stripsteak). Michael Mina’s Nobhill Tavern at the MGM Grand found itself being nominated for Outstanding Service.  Also in the Outstanding Chef category was Las Vegas’ own, Julian Serrano with his Picasso and self-titled Julian Serrano restaurants here at Bellagio and Aria respectively. Picasso was also nominated for Best Wine Service.

New to the culinary scene and already getting recognized by the big time, Vanessa Garcia of Restaurant Charlie at the Palazzo was nominated as a Rising Star Chef of the Year and Sage at Aria got the nod for Best New Restaurant.

Jöel Robuchon at the MGM Grand brought in three nominations with an Outstanding Service nomination, Kamel Guechida being recognized in the Outstanding Pastry Chef category and Claude Le Tohic for Best Chef: Southwest.  Also with Best Chef: Southwest nods are Saipin Chutima of Lotus of Siam and Rick Moonen of RM Seafood at Mandalay Bay.

Big congratulations to all of Las Vegas’ James Beard Award Semifinalists!  Being one of the most coveted awards in the culinary industry, Las Vegans should be proud to live among such a strong stable of gastronomic talent!

Keep in mind that these are the Semifinalists.  The Final Nominees will be announced from the Palace Café in New Orleans on March 22 and the winners will be announced on May 3Tasting Las Vegas will be crossing fingers and cheering on our honorees until then!

  • [...] 2010 James Beard Award Semifinalist for Outstanding Service, Nobhill Tavern at the MGM Grand is currently offering Las Vegas locals two for one entrees!  Nobhill staff told me that the promotion doesn’t have a specific end date, so call ahead at (702) 891-7337 to confirm it’s still happening. By the way, we’ll write some form of a reviews later this week, but in our Spoiler Alert nature; The Wife and I had one of the best overall dining experiences we’ve had in the 5 ½ years we’ve lived in Las Vegas.  Two for one entrees or not; go forth to Nobhill Tavern!
